HOW TO SET UP YOUR MANTRA PRACTICE Mantra meditation is an ancient practice, originating in Tantric Hinduism. They have been used to evoke a spiritual connection, enhance focus and calm the mind. In previous articles, I wrote about what mantras are and what the benefits are, in this article, we will explore the first few steps of how you can create your own mantra practice and start experiencing the benefits of this sacred tradition today. |
Regular practice It will serve your desired transformation if you make the decision to commit to a regular practice. Just like with any endeavor, each time you practice you are watering the seeds of transformation, Daily practice will serve you greatly and yes, It is easy to get lost in a busy schedule or the many distractions that are in front of us, but the payoff of regularly making time for yourself is so worth it. It is only with regular practice that you will see progress. If you want to improve your skills e.g. as a guitarist, you need to put in the time and effort. The same goes for any other skill or activity. Good times for practice would be in the morning after waking up, or in the evening before going to bed. Of course, any time you are in need of a reset, or life is challenging and you need a tool for centering yourself, you can turn to your mantra meditation practice for support. Set your intention Whether you choose to work with a traditional mantra, or you choose an affirmative mantra for your practice, the essence of your practice is your intention. Your intention to grow, to learn, to evolve, to surprise yourself, and discover something new. It is so rewarding to look inwards and connect to your inner being. From here new strength is born, calmness, peace, and a sense of centeredness, that we can carry with us throughout our days. Your intention is your arrow, your guide, on this inner journey. We remind ourselves why we are practicing, and this act alone already helps us with creating the sacred space to dive deep into our practice. It will remind ourselves of a bigger ‘goal’, one to connect to your higher Self, and do something good for ourselves. |
